East London Boxing Academy enjoyed some excellent success at the recent Youth National Championships.

Three young boxers, Uzair Maqbool, Uthman Nawaz and Muhammed Hasnan Ali were all in action at the Spiceball Leisure Centre in Banbury over the weekend.

Maqbool, the reigning National Development Champion, and Nawaz, the reigning Clubs for Young People super heavyweight champion, both lost prior to their respective finals on Sunday but they, along with Hasnan Ali, went on to be the National Under 18 open class champion in their respective weights.

Hasnan Ali went on to reach the final in his competition, which also included reigning European champions and potential future Olympians, putting in an excellent performance against Bradford’s Adam Samad to advance, which also secured him an invite to the England talent days in Sheffield.

In the final, he Jack Edge from Jimmy Egan’s Boxing Academy in Manchester but narrowly lost out to a split decision.

However, the 16-year-old came through some tough competition to even reach that stage and was part of a triumphant weekend for the club.
