Lawyers for the man on trial over the killing of PC Keith Blakelock in the 1985 Tottenham riots will begin setting out his defence today.
Nicky Jacobs, 45, is accused of murdering the officer in a frenzied mob attack during the unrest at the Broadwater Farm estate.
Jurors have already heard the prosecution put forward their case during four weeks of evidence at the Old Bailey.
Prosecutor Richard Whittam QC told the jury yesterday not to “ignore the evidence” and said they must decide whether Mr Jacobs was carrying a bladed weapon and was part of the gang that attacked the officer.
