Judges reviewing the Mark Duggan inquest’s ‘lawful killing’ verdict say they will give their decision next week.
Sir Brian Leveson, Mr Justice Burnett and Judge Peter Thornton QC heard a two-day case at the Royal Courts of Justice in July.
Lawyers representing the Duggan family, which called for the judicial review, argued that the ‘lawful killing’ verdict was the result of flawed directions from the coroner.
Mr Duggan was shot in August 2011 after armed officers forced the car he was travelling in to stop, based on intelligence that he had collected a gun. His death sparked rioting and looting in Tottenham and around London and cities around the UK.
Firearms officers claimed they fired in self-defence after Mr Duggan pointed a gun at them, but the inquest decided that he was unarmed when killed.
The judges' decision following the judicial review will be given on Tuesday, October 14, in the Royal Courts of Justice.
