Plans to sell off large sections of land at a hospital have been approved by Haringey Borough Council.
The Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust had applied to the council for permission to redevelop large areas of St Ann’s Hospital in St Ann’s Road, Tottenham.
The plans include 106 flats and 7 houses on the site, which is currently occupied by hospital buildings.
Outline plans were also put forward for the conversion of existing buildings to provide a further 350 homes and build a new mental health inpatient building.
The trust says the sale of the land for housing is needed to fund the upgrade of hospital wards.
Upgraded facilities and wards are required after a review of the hospital found that it no longer met modern standards.
Protestors gathered outside Haringey Civic Centre in High Road, Wood Green before and after the meeting and made objections to the planning sub-committee but permission for the proposals to go ahead was granted regardless.
