Firefighters saved a cricket pavilion from becoming ashes after a blaze broke out in Hornsey.

London Fire Brigade was called to the scene in Park Road at 4.15pm yesterday, and the fire was brought under control by 4.55pm.

Part of the building was damaged and a woman was treated for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service.

A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said: “We signalled for four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers to the scene. We caught the fire early which stopped the clubhouse from being well and truly stumped.

“The maiden run out of the pavilion before we arrived and she was treated as a precaution.”

Fire crews from Holloway, Hornsey and Soho fire stations attended and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
