Companies that built Wembley and the Olympic Stadium are among those who have been shortlisted for the new Spurs stadium contract.

Brookfield Multiplex, Mace and Sir Robert McAlpine are the final three bidders for the £400million project.

A preferred bidder is expected to be confirmed next month.

The bid for the Spurs ground, built next to the club's current White Hart Lane home, is Brookfield Multiplex’s first attempt to get a contract for major UK stadium construction since it rebuilt Wembley under its former guise, known simply as Multiplex.

The construction of Wembley was beset by delays, with the build starting in 2002 before eventually over-running by a year and costing more than £300m over budget.

It also saw two court cases involving Multiplex that had to be resolved, before opening in 2007.

Mace is currently project managing the conversion of the Olympic Stadium for use by Spurs’ Premier League rivals West Ham United.

The Olympic Stadium itself was built by Sir Robert McAlpine. They also built the Emirates Stadium, home of Arsenal, Tottenham’s deadly local rivals.

Tottenham’s proposed new stadium on Northumberland Park will seat 61,000 people, and is also expected to host NFL games.

Tottenham Hotspur declined to comment on this story.
