A man who bit the lip off a complete stranger at the Notting Hill Carnival after telling her 'I am the devil' has pleaded guilty.

Jason Thompson, of Appleby Close, Haringey, approached the victim, aged in her 40s, as she was in conversation on Portobello Road, close to Golborne Road, before he leaned forward and attacked her.

She was left in shock and bleeding heavily where she then approached police officers who took her to the nearest first-aid post.

The incident happened on the first day of the carnival at 6pm on August 25 last year.

Thompson, 42, pleaded guilty at Isleworth Crown Court to GBH with intent on February 25.

The victim was taken to a west London hospital where surgeons operated on her face but she was left with life-changing injuries.

Police issued a public appeal for witnesses and information which led to the Thompson’s arrest and he was charged on September 4 and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court the next day.

Notting Hill Carnival post-investigation unit’s DCI Driss Hayoukane said: “This was a horrific and unprovoked attack on a woman who has suffered life-changing injuries requiring ongoing surgery.

“The evidence against Jason Thompson was overwhelming, leaving him with no option other than to plead guilty.

“I want to praise the bravery of the victim in this case. I also want to thank members of the public who came forward following the original appeal with crucial information that assisted the investigation team.”
