The demolition of two structurally unsafe tower blocks and the building of new housing on the Broadwater Farm Estate in Tottenham is set to move a step closer.

A notice in this week’s edition of the Enfield Independent from the London Borough of Haringey states it is applying to the Government to seek confirmation for a compulsory purchase order for the Tangmere House and Northolt blocks.

If the order is confirmed, it will clear the way for the blocks to be demolished and for new housing to be built in its place to “overall facilitate the improvement of that part of the Broadwater Farm Estate”.

Tangmere, a six-storey block, and 18-storey Northolt were evacuated in 2018 following tests conducted in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster that found they were at risk of collapsing.

Meanwhile, several roads in Enfield are set to be temporarily closed during the next month due to resurfacing works.

A notice from Enfield Council outlines the works that are due to close parts of Trinity Avenue, Clay Hill, Lancaster Avenue and Crescent West at various times from February 22 until at least March 3.

Trinity Avenue, between its junctions with First Avenue and Melbourne Way, is due to be shut to traffic for one day on February 22 between 8am and 6pm.

The diversion will be via First Avenue, St Mark’s Road, Main Avenue, A10 Great Cambridge Road EN1, Trinity Avenue and vice versa.

A four-day closure from 8pm until 5am is due to be implemented from February 23 in Clay Hill, between Theobald’s Park and Browning Avenue.

The alternative route during these times will be Whitewebbs Road, Whitewebbs Lane, Bulls Cross, Bullsmoor Lane, A10 Great Cambridge Road EN1, Carterhatch Lane and Myddleton Avenue.

Lancaster Avenue, between Duchy Avenue and the boundary of numbers 54 and 56 Lancaster Avenue, is set to shut for two days from 8am until 6pm from March 1.

Traffic will be diverted via Lancaster Avenue, Crescent East, Beech Hill, Cockfosters Road and vice versa at these times.

A one-day closure is due to be implemented in Crescent West, between the boundary of numbers 40 and 42 Crescent West and the eastern flank wall of Gables Lodge, on March 3.

This will be between 8am and 6pm and the diversion will be via Crescent West, Camlet Way and Crescent East.
