Mother’s Day this year was an extra special moment for some care home residents, as it was among the first time families were able to reunite.

Hugh Myddelton care home in Southgate managed to utilise the government’s new Covid restrictions from March 4 that allows one single named visitor to visit each resident from their bedroom.

This meant that for Mother’s Day, many families were able to reunite and celebrate the special day.

Strict protocols are in place as all visitors require a negative Lateral Flow Device test result before entering, and social distancing measures are in place, with hand holding allowed but not recommended.

To celebrate Mother’s Day with residents at the home, staff arranged flowers for every resident, afternoon tea and discussion about how the role of the mother has changed.

Pauline Casey a resident at Hugh Myddelton, said: “I am so grateful to the staff here who make days like this extra special for us all and it was wonderful to be able to see my daughter now that we’re allowed to have bedroom visits from one family member.”

General manager, Ramona Stanciu said: “We’ve all had a really lovely day. This is the first cautious step towards having a buzz of visitors in the home again. It was wonderful to see how happy it made the residents and their relatives.

"We have a great booking system in place to ensure the visits are well organised, and visitors are doing a great job of following the safety measures to keep everyone as safe as possible. For those that are not able to come inside the home we are pleased to be able to continue to offer visits in our visiting suites or outdoors when the weather allows, as well as video calls.”
