A low-traffic neighbourhood scheme in Bowes Park will become permanent from Thursday after a last-ditch attempt to block it failed.

Opposition councillors called for the Bowes Primary Area Quieter Neighbourhood to be removed in a scrutiny meeting last week, but Labour councillors voted to keep the scheme in place.

The detail of what the permanent scheme entails has been published in a notice from Enfield Council in this week’s edition of the Enfield & Haringey Independent.

It states that, from January 27, the following measures will be introduced on a permanent basis:

  • Close Palmerston Road N22 to through traffic, except pedal cycles, in both directions (a planter and bollards have been placed outside No. 153).
  • Ban vehicles from turning right, except pedal cycles, from Palmerston Road into Kelvin Avenue N13 (traffic islands have been constructed in Palmerston Road to prevent turning).
  • Remove the existing width restriction in Warwick Road N11 outside No. 3.
  • Close Warwick Road to through traffic in both directions by prohibiting northbound vehicles from travelling further north than the common boundary of Nos. 3 and 5, and southbound vehicles from travelling further south than that boundary.
  • Prohibit vehicles, except pedal cycles, from entering or leaving Maidstone Road N11 at its junction with the eastern side of Warwick Road; and York Road N11 at its junction with Brownlow Road N11 (planters and bollards have been placed in Maidstone Road and York Road at these junctions).
  • Introduce waiting restrictions and a ban on loading or unloading vehicles to operate ‘at any time’ in certain lengths of York Road near its junction with Brownlow Road, and Maidstone Road near its junction with Warwick Road.
  • Impose a 20mph maximum speed limit in Beech Road N11, Elvendon Road N13, Goring Road N11, Hardwicke Road N13 and in parts of Brownlow Road N11 and Queens Road N11.
