Eight people fled a former pub that went up in flames over the weekend.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at the old White Hart in Ponders End High Street on Saturday (July 9).

The London Fire Brigade said around 40 firefighters tackled the fire, which was reported just before 2pm.

The fire was brought under control at 5pm but the brigade said half of the first floor and half of the second floor of the building was damaged.

There were eight people inside the former pub – in flats above – the fire brigade said, who all left before crews arrived.

The scene was cordoned off by emergency services to allow firefighters to work safely.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
