Candidates have been announced for an upcoming by-election following the death of a councillor.

Voters in Haringey Council’s Hermitage and Gardens ward are set to head to the polls at the end of this month (Thursday June 29).

The by-election was called following the death of Labour councillor Julie Davies earlier this year.

The winner of the vote will join Cllr Mike Hakata in representing the ward on Haringey Council.

Hermitage and Gardens, and its predecessor wards, have elected Labour councillors at every election since 1968.

Anna Lawton (Labour)

Anna Lawton has been selected as the Labour candidate for Hermitage and Gardens wards.

She has already begun campaigning for the vacant council seat with Cllr Hakata.

Lawton has retweeted a picture of herself and Cllr Hakata canvassing voters in favour of a “greener and fairer borough”  on June 5.

Alfred Jahn (Green)

A Haringey resident for the last eight years, Jahn told Tottenham Independent that he has actively campaigned for sustainable mobility, protecting green spaces, safer streets and affordable housing for all.

He added: "I feel Haringey is years behind when it comes to creating safe cycling infrastructure, protecting our parks and community spaces and ensuring that all residents can afford their rent.

"These are the issues that I will be campaigning for if elected to the council as we, the Haringey Green Party, believe it needs a strong Green voice on the council."

Paul Dennison (Liberal Democrats)

Former Cllr Paul Dennison has been chosen as the Liberal Democrats' candidate for the by-election.

He has committed to being a “hard-working champion” for the area, claiming he will be residents’ voice on issues such as St Ann’s Hospital construction and the use of Finsbury Park for private events.

Chris Brosnan (Conservatives)

The Conservative Party has chosen self-professed Spurs fan Chris Brosnan as their candidate.

Brosnan has expressed support for weekly bin collections, freezing council tax and opposition to Low Traffic Neighbourhoods.

Amelia Allao (Christian People's Alliance)

Allao previously ran as a candidate for Stroud Green ward at the local elections in 2022.

An NHS worker, she campaigned at the time for better social care for elderly and disabled adults.
