A GP surgery in Muswell Hill that “offers appointments outside of normal working hours” has been rated one of the best in the borough.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said that The Muswell Hill Practice was ‘outstanding’ after its latest inspection, as it becomes just the second practice in the borough to be given its highest rating.

Inspectors praised the “caring culture” and proactive attitude at the surgery, as well as its outreach initiatives.

Alongside providing “person-centred” services, the GP was commended for organising a toy and clothes collection for refugees staying at a nearby hotel, as well as a scheme to reduce plastic use in medicines.

The CQC report is the first released since the practice moved to its new location in Muswell Hill (A504) in summer 2022.

Jane RayCQC deputy director of operations in London, said staff at the practice were “kind and reassuring”, often went the extra mile to meet patients' needs and reported that they felt valued at work.

She said: “We found the practice had asked for and acted on people’s feedback to improve their care.

“This included the design of the practice’s new purpose-built location, and the timing of appointments offered outside the practice’s normal working hours.

“We saw the practice was proactive in managing people’s health needs and risks, including for people with long-term conditions.”

She added that the practice learned from any “incidents”, adding that other providers should read the inspection report to see what they can learn from its approach.

Inspectors also praised the surgery for ensuring homeless people were able to easily register without a permanent address.

Partners Dr Amanda Sutton, Dr Neil Manttan, and Dr Natasha Smeaton, as well as practice manager Natalie Ker Watson, said they were “delighted” by the report.

They told Ham and High: “Fewer than 1% of GP practices in London have achieved this rating, we are only the second practice in Haringey to be currently rated ‘outstanding’.

“We are very grateful to all our staff for their hard work and their caring attitude, which was highlighted in the report as going above and beyond normal expectations.”

They added: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported the practice in our ongoing efforts to provide ‘outstanding’ healthcare in Haringey.”
