5 of the best Japanese restaurants in London

Endo at The Rotunda

Set in The Helios, the former BBC TV Centre, Endo at The Rotunda has been the setting for many cultural moments over the years according to the Michelin Guide.

Described as 'Sushi in the clouds' by founder Endo Kazutoshi, the restaurant is on the top floor of The Helios and offers tastes of "subtly flavoured element of the omakase in an engaging, charming way."

Ingredients used are imported from Japan or the very best from Europe, including monkfish from Brixham and tuna from Spain.

Evernight

Evernight in Wandsworth is described as a "hotspot" by the guide thanks to its experienced chef and their "trendy take on an izakaya".

Offering sharing plates that use British produce with Japanese touches, one of the popular meals is the chicken karaage and the gyoza.

However, the aged beef rib gets the most praise, as Michelin shares its "the real standout".

Humble Chicken

Soho's Humble Chicken is owned by Japanese chef-owner Angelo Sato who has created a "modern, upbeat izakaya with a luxury 18-seater counter."

The multi-course tasting menu is said to be a "theatrical affair" that "showcases precisely crafted dishes with clever flavour and temperature combinations".

The Michelin-rated restaurants have a rating of 4.5/5 on the online review site Tripadvisor, as one guest said: "World-class, inventive and fun. Every dish superb and the house’s skill with chicken still much in evidence; the chicken nanban was a bite of joy."
