A WHISTLEBLOWING consultant left in the wilderness after raising concerns about a clinic which treated Baby P has finally won an apology.

Consultant Paediatrician Dr Kim Holt co-signed a 2006 letter warning of serious problems at St Ann's Clinic in Tottenham, telling bosses it was understaffed and a “chaotic” appointment system was putting patients at risk.

The clinic was thrust into the media spotlight after the death of Baby P – Peter Connelly – in 2007, after it was revealed the 17-month-old had been to the clinic two days before his death but a multitude of injuries were not spotted.

Dr Holt was removed from the clinic, which is run by Haringey Primary Care Trust but with doctors employed by Great Ormond Street Hospital Trust, and she claims bosses ignored her warnings.

She has now been issued with a formal apology from both health trusts, the wording of which was revealed by Lynne Featherstone, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, on her personal blog.

The apology read: “ Both trusts accept and are sorry that you have been through a difficult time.

“You are a respected and valued member of staff and we look forward to you resuming your role in community paediatrics very soon.”

Dr Holt was placed on special leave by the hospital, and kept on full pay but not allowed to work.

Ms Featherstone hit out at the “huge injustice” done to Dr Holt, just days after calling for the chief executive of Great Ormond Street Hospital to step down amid allegations parts of the report into Baby P's treatment were held back from a Serious Case Review.
