Gareth Southgate’s side will take a slender lead to Croatia after goals from Kane and Saido Berahino helped England overcome Marko Livaja.
Tom Carroll - currently on loan at Swansea City - also started and played 90 minutes for the Three Lions, whilst defender Eric Dier came off the bench at half-time in place of Michael Keane.
Brentford loanee Alex Pritchard was not involved in the matchday squad.

In African Cup of Nations qualifying, Emmanuel Adebayor helped Togo to a 1-0 win in Uganda. Togo host Uganda on Wednesday.
Elsewhere in qualifying for next year’s African Cup of Nations, Nabil Bentaleb played 81 minutes for Algeria in their 2-0 win in Malawi.
Algeria will aim for a similar result when they host Malawi on Wednesday.
On Saturday, Erik Lamela played 61 minutes for Argentina in their 2-0 defeat to Brazil in Beijing, before being replaced by PSG’s Javier Pastore.
Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was an unused substitute as France beat Portugal 2-1 in a friendly on Saturday. Steve Mandanda of Marseille started in place of the Les Bleus’ captain.
Lloris could be involved as France travel to Armenia for another friendly on Tuesday.
